Evaluation pt7

Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progress from it to the product?

As I view my preliminary task for what I have learnt my camera work has improved considerably. We improved how we used the tripod, using panning shots, and keeping the shots steady and alligned.

There has also beenimprovements made in the sound and sound quality from my preliminary task to my thriller opening. In the preliminary task we had problems with matching up the sound and voices, but in the thriller we worked out how to change the voiced, take sound away, and put sound into places where it was nessesary.

The accuracy of our scenes was also greatly impoved by the handling of the camera for the shots. For our prelimanary excersise we were not as used to using the camera, tripod or software, and therefore mad it look messy. The frames were not set up as well, and you can tell this by the mise en scene
* the charecters possitioning, for example, the high angle shot looking down on the charecter (myself) as she was laying down.
* lighting, this varied through the preliminary task through shots, however, we kept it the same throughout out thriller as we changed the lighing using the effects tool.
* costume, hair and makeup, through the preliminary task we gave little thought to these things, but in our triller we took the time to make sure the charecters dress and make up like the bleeding hands were done correctly.
* facial expressions and body language, there was poor acting used in the preliminary task, but as we filmed out thriller it considerably improved.
* props, as we were not aware of continuity errors.

Evaluation pt6

What have you learnt about the technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Technologies:
We used a camera in our thriller to take pictures of the setting of our film and also to create the photo that we eventually used to get burnt by Sid, our male lead.
The video camera was used to film the whole sequence, and an Apple Imac Computer that we edited it on, using various software; final cut express, imovie and live type.
We found the music we used for out thriller on mobygratis.com

 I used:

To document the making of my thriller, keep up with my storyboard, and make notes about my thriller. I also used my blog to broadcast my final opening to our groups thriller, and our story board animatic and preliminary excersise from youtube.

IMovie
I used this along with live type to create our production company ident, as it was easier to add the music using this software.

Digital Camcorders
To film our thriller we used Camcorders. We also used tripods to stand them on to keep a steady shot and so we was able to tilt the camera without the scene being shaky.

Youtube
We used this to broadcast out thriller before I published it on my blog. Using this people all over the world can watch our thriller opening.

Still cameras,
These were used to take the picture we used to burn in the fire scene.

Phones,
I used my mobile phone to take pictures of my some of the places which we then chose to become locations for the thriller.

SlideShare,
For one of the questions of my evaluation I used slide share to demonstrate how my thriller was influenced by different films and genres.

Google,
To research the thriller genre and to find out about other films relating to my thriller I used Google. It then lead me to different websites where I could learn about thrillers, and the conventions of the thriller genres, Wikipedia was very useful for this also.

Survey Monkey,
For my audience research i used Survey Monkey to create a survey which would allow me to see what people liked/dislikes about thrillers, how often they chose to watch them, and any other points they wanted to make about the genre.

Final Cut Express
Our group used this to edit our movie. It was brilliant, it was easy to upload the movie, edit it, cut it down, add effects and music, add and take away sound, and change the picture contrast. Through this we was able to add jump cuts, fade ins and make the flask backs black and white.

From these technologies I have learnt how to operate them more efficiently. I watched the tutorials of the programmes and therefore learnt how to use them quickly, and so i could get the best the programme had to offer. For example, how to add effects on final cut express. I could transform scenes to black and white and add transitions correctly. I have also learnt how to upload videos from the computer straight to my blogg, and also onto youtube, how to make wordles, and slideshare. With slideshare i had a few hiccups as i found the website difficult to use, but after a little help i then became confident in using the programme.

I have gained many camera skills whilst filming. How to use the tripod sorrectly and therefore correctly develop panning shots, high angle and low andle shots, and a range to shot lengths.

Evaluation pt 5

How did you attract/adress your audience?

Our thriller holds the audiences attention as the qick paced editing and change of scenes attempt to confuse the viewer and therefore also keep thier attention as they wonder what is going on. The audience may want to watch our film as it can keep them on the edge of thier seat, it is thrilling, full of suspense and involves a topic that has not yet been explored in the film industry.

The audience would want to watch our thriller after the two minute opening as in the beggining slip it shows different scenes of what would become the whole film.  Seeing the clips of the actor (Sid) being tortured would make them want to see how this fitted into the story and how he got to the place where he is. This would allow the audience to engage with the charecters.

A cliff hanger is used at the end of the two minute sequence as we are just left with the titles after Sid screams into the camera. This could leave the viewers inquizitive to what is to happen next and where he would end up, desiring the viewers to watch more of the film.

We used young actors in the film to associate with the younger generation who would be watching the movie. As the film is a phsycological/horror/thriller that a younger audience would more likely view as it can be entertaining to watch and teenagers like to get scared by movies. We used dark cupboards and secluded spaces to create a spooky and empty atmosphere.

We used aspooky location and a field to film a thriller, which is a universal setting that anyone can relate to- attracting a wider audience.

Evaluation pt4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

I created a survey on SurveyMonkey to assess my target audience and see what people liked to see in thrillers. Our film is targeted at a teen/adult market, as it is gorey and also uses teen actors.

The surveys show what attracts people to thrillers
* suspence
* shock
* the thrill
* mystery
* keeping you on the edge of your chair
Which our thriller includes.

Here is a wordle of what people liked about our thriller, i made it out of what the people wrote down about our thriller after watching it.

Evaluation pt.3

What kind of of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

My film could be distributed for viewing by the following;
A production comany in the United Kingdom. For example,

Or, if we decided to take out thriller over seas to the united stated we could take it to;

20th Century Fox

Universal Studios

MGM

Our movie can be shown in cinemas, on the internet, youtube, DVD, or television, and can also be marketed through these medias.
* trailers
* internet adverts and pop ups
* inside DVD boxes or being advertised as a trailer at the beggining of the movie
* televised adverts
* poster

However, for out movie i would adverise it by posters used on bill bloards, busses and other objects as they are seen everywhere, and when out travelling they really catch your attention. They are also one of the largest forms of advertising in quantity and in size, making them recognisable and effective.

An example of a movie that is largly advertised on busses and billboadrs is Harry Potter. They use this method before the trailer is released as it lets everyone know the film is coming out and aldo gives out more publicity.

Question 2:

How does my media product represent certain social groups?

Our thriller shows gender as we have only two actors, a boy and a girl.

 We are showing the male role in a negative light, and the female in a positive one. This is stereo typing the male actor suggesting that men could be more mentally unstable than women. An example of this could be shown in The Shining (watch clip) where the man is shown to be mad and irrational.

I used  a white ethnic group for our film. They are both shown in normal clothes, to give a natural and realistic look to the scene and are in a rural setting when they are together, in the flash backs. However, when the male actor, Sid, does the scene in an isolated and deserted room. he is also wearing normal clothes, but we use props to show his character in a different light.
We show sexuality in the thriller through a straight couple, to show a torn relationship. They are 16 years old, middle class, and are portrayed to seem this way.

We used a stereotypical looking girl and boy in our thriller. the girl was shown is smart girls clothes and the male charecter was wearing a shirt, jacket and trousers. representing typical teenagers.
